Galentine's Day, the day celebrating women's friendship, is approaching. It is always rewarding to give your best female friends something unexpected, yet thoughtful, such as a classic read. Many great pieces of literature can be found right in the
neighborhood that surrounds the red doors of Spence, including some of my favorites located on shelves in The Corner Bookstore :
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott: As a sister, I fell in love with the March sisters. Each sister is unique and offers a different perspective on life, romance, careers, and gender roles. Although published in 1968, it is a timeless read about the struggle to find one’s identity.
The Tempest by William Shakespeare: Although one might not grab a play by Shakespeare as nighttime reading material, this one is captivating. Written in the 1600s, he engages his audience with romance, revenge, and magic themes in an island setting.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte: The story follows an orphan, Jane, who suffered much adversity in her early years through her journey for love and belonging. She experiences struggles with social class status and gender inequality in this 1847 novel.
Happy Galentine's Day reading!
